In 2020, Cdiscount shipped a record 23 million packages. With a strict CSR policy aimed at reducing the environmental impact associated with its supply chain, the e-retailer’s challenge is also to scale up without increasing the floor space of its warehouses.
The Bordeaux-based company was the first in Europe to use one of the CVP packaging machines back in 2016. The packaging solutions still address four clearly identified needs: relieving the workload on teams, satisfying the consumer, minimizing the impact on the environment, and supporting performance.


Cdiscount has been an innovator and pioneer by adopting Sparck’s ( a Packsize Company) first CVP Impack machines in Europe, and is the first company in the world to implement the CVP Everest model, enabling it to increase its theoretical throughput to 1,100 packages per hour. Thanks to the CVP, Cdiscount ships optimized packages with two major goals: reducing the amount of cardboard and cushioning materials, and eliminating empty space by reducing the size of the packaging. Since the package is the first physical point of contact between the brand and the customer, it helps build trust. CVP contributes to a better customer experience and conveys a positive environmental message by creating custom packaging for each order. The customer receives a compact, properly sized box without filler material, which eliminates the disappointing feeling of packaging waste. James Rebours emphasizes, “Product packaging that is tailored to the contents means that, by default, we use fewer cushioning materials, and that’s truly beneficial for the environment.”
The CVP solution enabled the French e-commerce leader to achieve three key KPIs: -30, -30, -30. A 30% reduction in material consumption, a 30% reduction in empty space in packages, and a 30% reduction in the number of trucks on the road.
